What is it?
A feature enhancement that improves the Applicant experience when viewing and requesting inspections.
This update refreshes the Inspection Step interface with improved form components, clearer request and scheduling states, better accessibility, a new Special Instructions field, and access to Inspection Reports once an inspection is complete.
How does it work?
This update enhances the Applicant-facing Inspection Step view to make inspection requests and statuses easier to understand and interact with.
With this update:
- The Inspection Request form uses updated UI components with improved accessibility and clearer required fields
- Applicants can request:
- a preferred inspection date
- a preferred time (AM, PM, or No Preference)
- a contact name
- a contact phone number
- optional special instructions
- Unavailable dates are disabled in the date picker, including:
- dates blocked by step configuration
- dates that have reached request capacity
- organization holidays
- After submitting a request, Applicants see a confirmation modal and a clearer Request Pending state
- Applicants can edit a pending request until the inspection has been scheduled
- Once staff schedule the inspection, Applicants see a distinct Scheduled state with confirmed details
- Once the inspection is completed:
- the completed date is shown
- the inspection status is visible
- Inspection Reports are available to preview and download
- Step Status badges will also now appear in the step list sidebar for Applicants when a status exists
These updates make it easier for Applicants to understand whether an inspection is requested, scheduled, or complete.
Why did we make this change?
Customers have expressed a need for greater visibility and flexibility within the inspection experience. This includes the ability to share inspection reports directly with applicants, capture additional context such as special instructions (e.g., lockbox details or access notes), and provide clearer insight into the status and progress of an inspection throughout its lifecycle.
This feature improves the Applicant experience by:
- Creating clearer distinctions between requested, scheduled, and completed inspections
- Improving accessibility and form usability
- Adding more helpful request details through Special Instructions
- Giving Applicants access to Inspection Reports by default
- Making step statuses more visible throughout the interface
How do I get access to this feature?
This update is standard and will be available in the product immediately upon release.
Applicants will experience these updates automatically when viewing or requesting inspections through the Inspection Step interface.
