What are the Custom Step Statuses and Follow-up Inspections features?
Custom Step Statuses and Follow-Up Inspections are features that give organizations more flexibility when completing inspections by allowing Inspection Steps to use Custom Step Statuses and by enabling follow-up inspections to be generated automatically based on selected statuses.
This update also allows staff to update an inspection’s status after completion and toggle an inspection between complete and incomplete as needed.
How do the Custom Step Statuses and Follow-up Inspections features work?
Inspection Results are being consolidated into Custom Step Statuses, so Inspection Steps will now use Custom Step Statuses the same way other agency steps do.
With this update:
- Existing Custom Inspection Results will be migrated into Custom Step Statuses
- Platform users can configure which statuses are available on an Inspection Step
- Platform users can also choose which statuses should automatically trigger a follow-up inspection
- When completing an inspection, staff must still select a status
- Based on the selected status, the Create a follow-up inspection toggle will automatically turn on or remain off according to the Step configuration
- Staff can still override that toggle manually before completing the inspection
- After completion, staff can continue to:
- update the inspection status
- edit scheduling information
- update the inspection checklist
- generate an inspection report
- Staff can also mark an inspection as incomplete at any time if needed
This provides more flexible inspection management while keeping follow-up creation easy and configurable.
Why did we create this feature?
Previously, inspection results and custom inspection statuses were managed separately, and completing an inspection limited how much staff could adjust the step afterward. Follow-up inspections also required less flexible configuration.
This feature improves the inspection workflow by:
- Standardizing inspections to use Custom Step Statuses like other steps in the system
- Allowing follow-up inspections to be triggered automatically based on selected statuses
- Giving staff more flexibility to update inspections after completion
- Making it easier to correct, revise, or continue inspection work when needed
How do I get access to this feature?
This feature is standard and will be available in the product immediately upon release.
Platform users will be able to configure Follow-Up Inspection settings within the Inspection Step configuration form. Custom Step statuses can be created and managed through the system settings under guide and portal settings.
Will access to the Custom Step Statuses and Follow-up Inspections features cost anything extra?
No, access to the Custom Step Statuses and Follow-Up Inspections features are included with your current subscription. This tool is designed to support both new and existing customers without incurring any additional costs.
